I’M BUILDING A NEW HOME

When building a new home, in order for your family’s comfort in the summer months, it would be most desirable to choose a lighter colour for your roof, such as an off white or any of the lighter colours.

It sort of goes without saying a black roof or choice of one of the darker colours is going to compromise the comfort of the home with the attraction of an overload of thermal rays.

So therefore, it makes sense to choose lighter colours for your roof.

MOST IMPORTANTLY IT IS A MUST TO HAVE AN EFFECTIVE ROOF VENTILATION SYSTEM INSTALLED

Choose a lighter colour for your roof is a good start, however a good effective roof ventilation system is a must.

You need to remove the heat overload from the roofspace (the space between the roof and the ceiling insulation). This heat overload needs to be removed, after 5 or 6 days the R value of the ceiling insulation breaks down and this heat overload trapped in the roofspace radiates into the living areas long after the sun goes down.

So if you don’t want to have sleepless nights when considering your family’s comfort, choose a lighter colour roof and have your builder install an effective roof ventilation system.

Builders will shirk out of using an effective roof ventilation system and if they have to they will use an ineffective whirlybird, remember it is your comfort you have to worry about not the builders.

A roof ventilation system should be a balanced system of two ventilators of the same volume to each zone of your roof layout, this will allow the ambient air to circulate the roofspace and exhaust the overload of the roofspace.

It is equally important in winter to have an effective roof ventilation system to alleviate condensation problems as well as SBS (Sick Building Syndrome).
