ROOF VENTS

We must look at what we are trying to achieve when considering roof vents.  Are we trying to achieve a cooler home in summer, or are we battling a moisture problem within the roofspace.

So if we are looking at making our home cooler in summer or for a drier roofspace, do we buy the cheapest hardware supermarket roof vent or perhaps we may choose to buy the most expensive power or solar fan.  When you don’t know how a cooler home is achieved by roof ventilation, it is hard to tell what product to buy.

Roof vents come in many shapes and forms WHAT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU MAKE A PURCHASE, IS THE BASIC PHYSICS WITHIN A ROOF VENT.

To ventilate a roof cavity you need to circulate the ambient temperature throughout the roof cavity.  This allows for fresh air to enter the roof cavity and for heated stale air to evacuate the roof cavity, makes sense don’t you think?  However one supermarket roof vent cannot possibly allow ambient circulation throughout the roof cavity alone, nor can a roof fan powered or solar alike.  What you need are multiples of roof vents to achieve a good circulation of ambient air throughout the roof cavity, again makes sense doesn’t it.

SO WITH ROOF VENTS THAT’S THE KEY TO EFFECTIVE ROOF VENTILATION, ROOF VENTS PLURAL

However as roof vents come in many forms and shapes, the best circulation will be achieved with roof vents that are integrally part of a system.  So what you need to be looking for is a collective roof ventilation system that has been designed integrally to incorporate inlet and outlet roof vents that use and harness the principles of fluid dynamics.

So the answer is no stand-alone roof vent or fan of any type, could achieve a cooler home or a drier roofspace on their own.
