A corrugated colorbond roof without roofspace ventilation is not unlike playing Russian roulette with a full magazine. It may be raining in your roof and you won’t know about it till you start seeing the evidence on your ceiling, usually a brown water stain around a light fitting or on the ceiling around the corners, even worse still, the moisture that has collected in the ceiling insulation may have attracted a fungi – mould – mould exposure can lead to all types of Sick Building Syndrome. This moisture build up in your ceiling space is condensation.
CONDENSATION: THE ENEMY WITHIN
Condensation has always been a problem with metal roofs, especially low pitched metal roofs however the problems of condensation have increased dramatically over the last decade in all types of metal roofs, due to the over use of insulation and bad building practices – there is plenty of information on this site in our Blogs regarding all of these concerns.
Australian builders are notorious for not effectively ventilating or even ventilating at all the roofspaces of Australian homes.
If you look at American and European homes you will see that roofspace ventilation has been planned into the home’s design and most homes have their roofspaces effectively ventilated.
Condensation and Sick Building Syndrome are more evident in Australian homes today than ever before, this is mainly due to the over insulating and some bad building practices.
Effective ventilation of the roofspace will need to have inlets and outlets preferably in the roof covering (the corrugated colorbond) to allow the ambient temperature to circulate the roofspace and exhaust continually replacing fresh dry air to the roofspace making for a healthier, cooler home in summer and dry the roofspace from condensation and/or humidity problems all year round.
Universal Tile Ventilators Smoothline Ventilator was designed exclusively for corrugated roofing and will take care of all your roofspace problems all year round, at a one off cost with no moving parts to ever wear out, will last as long as your roof or longer. You can’t beat that.
