CORROSION TESTING FOR THE PERFORATIONS OF THE INSECT BARRIER OF THE UNIVERSAL TILE VENTILATOR® AND THE SMOOTHLINE® CORRUGATED VENTILATION SYSTEMS

Corrosion testing started on 26-2-2010 for the perforated insect barrier manufactured from ⋅55 zincalume® steel (the same steel all our ventilators are manufactured from).

Test as follows – Cut the perforated insect barrier in half, immerse the pieces in pure sea salt water every day then leave them in the atmosphere.

Test Method:- The perforated insect barrier was cut in half leaving all raw edges open to the atmosphere. Half a kilogram of pure sea salt was placed in one litre of water, the water was stirred for 30 seconds with each piece of perforated barrier. The cut pieces would then be left in the outside atmosphere till the next day in whatever situation direct sunlight 38° days, 8° below zero, summer, autumn, winter and spring, rain, hail whatever mild, cold or hot. The stirring of the salt would be repeated daily and when placed in the outside atmosphere the perforations would be coated in salt crystals, the water was never changed only topped up however the salt was recharged every two weeks.

This test has been repeated every day since the 26-2-2010. The testing has now been carried out till to date 13-4-2011, some 441 days, 10,584 hours. The perforation’s cut edges and the metal itself shows no signs of corrosion whatsoever.

This test was carried out to find that the perforations of our products would hold up over many years being subjected to salt air close to the elements.

Anything else is a compromise!
